He said: “Peace and Unity after the court’s ruling is a key ingredient to the development of the area; political parties will come and go but the district will remain the same and I am therefore calling on the various political parties and the general public to exercise maximum restraint.”
“Our country is promoting democratic governance, so political parties should play a key role in responsible and matured politics for the general good of the country,” he emphasized.
Mr. Makandan was speaking at a day’s sensitization programme organized by the assembly to educate the general public and political parties on the need to maintain peace in Mion after the election petition verdict.
He warned, “the security agencies are fully prepared to deal with people who will want to take the law into their hands.”
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate in the 2012 elections, Alhassan Shaibu Shani commended all the parties involved in the case for their commitment to resolving the impasse in court.
He tasked leadership of the political parties to sensitize its grass root members on the need to comport themselves after the verdict is given.
According to him, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie has already conducted several regional peace sensitization tours all in a bid to let people accept the verdict of the court and urged the other stakeholders to emulate the NPPs example.
On his part, the Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mallam Zakaria commended the leadership of the NPP in the constituency for their peaceful co-existence that has promoted peace in the area.

“We have come a long way and should remain committed to responsible politics,” he added.
Several people continue to add their voices to calls for peace and harmony after the Supreme Court verdict on the case in which three Petitioners of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are challenging the results of the 2012 general elections which produced the incumbent president John Mahama as the winner.
