Government’s policy to expand the School Feeding Programme to improve education has not proved futile as most schools across the length and breadth of the country have started benefiting from the initiative.

The programme which aims at providing equal opportunity for the needy in society seems to have taken a new twist under the ruling party’s “Better Ghana” agenda of which education is a priority.

Currently, about 29 basic schools in the Mpohor Wassa East District have started benefiting from the programme.

Confirming this at an assembly sitting, the Chief Executive for the District, Anthony Bassaw noted that most schools have been migrated onto the programme  under the Mills-led government, adding that additional 23 schools had been added to the existing 6, tallying the number to 7,758 pupils being fed under the initiative.

He said the programme had since ballooned the number of students population in those beneficiary schools which has enhanced teaching and learning in the area.

Mr. Bassaw, however added that the programme has not only increase enrolment but also mentioned that it had also improved the economic wellbeing of farmers who work tirelessly to provide food for the caterers.

He therefore urged farmers in the area to capitalized on the programme and expand their production to meet the demands of the programme.
