SAVELUGU-NANTON : DCE commends NGOs
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other benevolent organisations operating in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region have received commendation for their contribution towards the alleviation of poverty, infrastructure development among others.

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other benevolent organisations operating in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region have received commendation for their contribution towards the alleviation of poverty, infrastructure development among others.
Mr. Prince Askia Mohammed, District Chief Executive for Savulugu-Nanton who made the commendation said these bodies including UNICEF, World Vision, Tumakavi and RAINS among others have been of serious help to the assembly and the district at large.
On health, the DCE appealed to Traditional Birth Attendances (TBAs) in the area to send all pregnant women in labour to the nearest health centre and further disclosed that government is given out tokens to any TBA who sends labour women to the hospital.
He also stated that RAINS an NGO has promised to provide TBAs in the Diare area.
Mr. Askia in another development stated that the last set of the Cuban Doctors have left the district and that the district has only one medical doctor attending to all cases.
He therefore appealed to the Northern Regional Health Directorate to consider posting more doctors to the district immediately, adding the assembly is ready to support any doctor who is ready to come and work in the district,he added.
He held that the district is one of the biggest in the region and said its position is not suitable for one doctor to manager.
He also announced that the district is sponsoring and supporting some reasonable number of students in the area in health education in order to get them back to the district to help the district upon completion.
