After the Central regional house of Chiefs had bestowed the title Okunyin on President John Atta Mills, the fishermen of Elmina have also bestowed an honour, meaning great fisherman on him.
The title is President Ofarnyi Kwegya Atta Mills , for his ability to promote the fishing industry in Ghana.
Komfo Amoah, who read a citation during the ceremony held at Elmina said the fishermen use blue nets, while the sea is blue, and the fact that President Mills has provided blue pre mix to prevent diversion meant he deserved the great honour.
The late Ofarnyi Kwegya was the greatest fisherman ever to have lived in Ghana. After his death, no fisherman has been able to equal his achievements, hence the naming of President Mills after him.
Libation was poured before he was given a stool wrapped in Ghana Flag which was received by the Central regional minister,Ama Benyiwa Doe who thanked them for their gesture.
