Frantic steps are being made to equip the youth in the Bawku Municipality to make them more productive and self reliant.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Musah Abdulai in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com disclosed that his main vision for the youth in the area was to strive to provide them with the necessary skills, materials and guidelines that would afford them the opportunity to get into productive ventures.

This, he noted would ensure that they also contribute their quota to the development of the municipality as well as improve their economic fortunes.

"By so doing, there will be little time to idle about or do unacceptable activities that have bedeviled the municipality and drawn its development behind", he added.

According to the MCE, about three different categories of youth identified have special provisions made for them to realise their potentials.

The first category which he said are the educated ones would be assisted to pursue higher education and get into other ventures where their expertise would be needed.

For others who are not educated but can be trained to acquire
skills, they would have the opportunity to do so.

They would be provided with tools after the training to establish their own workshops while the assembly try to find ready market for their produce.

Those who would be trained as artisans, would be employed as lead artisans in EU projects as well as other projects that would be undertaken by the assembly.

He said discussions were far advanced with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) for a large track of land to be used for youth in agriculture which is expected to engage a large number of the youth.

Meanwhile some of these laudable interventions have to wait for funds to be released to the assembly for them to see the light of day but those with some facilities available for their implementation have commenced.
