The Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Office have been urged to organise periodic seminars to educate traditional rulers on methods of administering justice through arbitration.

The chief of New-Sawireso in Asunafo South District in the Brong Ahafo Region, Nana Agyemang-Duah who made the call, said that the administration of justice through arbitration would help ease the congestion of civil cases in the country’s courts.

The chief who was speaking at a meeting organised for 15 sub-chiefs in the area, suggested that traditional councils should be involved in the organisation of the seminars, adding “Some judgments at arbitration leave much to be desired hence the need to organise orientation courses for the chiefs”.

Nana Agyemang-Duah urged chiefs to refrain from handling criminal cases and remain neutral and fair in arbitrations.

He asked the chiefs to impose reasonable fines on those found guilty in civil cases and to take record of cases they handle.

Nana Agyemang-Duah appealed to resident citizens of New-Sawireso and those abroad to contribute to the construction of the new palace in the area.
