The Tano South District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon Bukari Zakaria Anaba has stated that education was a basic right that all Ghanaians, whether old or young should access.
  
He therefore urged those who could not access it formally, to take advantage of the non-formal educational programme to enhance their personal development and contribution to society.
     
The DCE was addressing the people of Buokrukruwa and its environs in Tano South District, including facilitators and supervisors from Tano North and Tano South Districts in the Brong Ahafo region on the occasion of the World literacy day celebration.
    
He said the ultimate goal of the concept was to develop and enhance the capacity of the learners to meet the challenges of the society and to participate actively in the socio-economic development of their communities
    
Hon.Anaba called on beneficiaries of the functional literacy programme to be more serious and committed to their lessons.
    
He said the world had become a global village and technologically based, and added that anyone who cannot read or write is cut off from the scientific and technological development and debate.
    
Hon. Anaba appealed to the illiterates in the area as well as the elderly to register to acquire literacy and numeracy skills to be able to improve their productive skills”.
    
The District Coordinator of Non-Formal Education Division (NFED), Mr. Nicholas Ameyaw assured the communities of the dedication of the facilitators and the supervisors to their duties.
    
He said the division was ready to distribute teaching and learning materials to make the programme a success.
   
Nana Adjei Dominic, Nifahene of the town, who represented the chief thanked the organizers for the programme and thanked the government for its efforts to help Ghanaians without formal education.
