A Canadian Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Christopher Gillespie has advised Ghanaian sportsmen and women to let discipline, hard work and Gods-fears guide them in all their dealings.

He said if they cultivated and jealously maintained these excellent moral qualities, it would help them to chalk greater successes in their professional careers.

Rev. Gillespie gave the advice after he had presented a number of sporting equipments, including two sets of jerseys, worth about US 6,000 dollars to the management of Real Oman United Football Club at Gomoa-Pomadze in the Central Region.

The gesture was made possible through the instrumentality of Mr George Bannerman, a Ghanaian friend of Rev. Father Gillespie and Nana Barimah Ogyeabo-Kum II, Nifahene of Gomoa Asebu.

The Executive Director of Canada-based Ministerial Development and Relief Programme (MDRP), a Non Governmental Organisation, Rev. Father Gillespie said that besides giving adequate entertainment to millions of people worldwide, football is one of the finest games the world had ever introduced.

He maintained that football like any other sporting activity assists immensely in building a healthier body and a sound mind with which one could make meaningful headway in life.

Rev. Father Gillespie said that he was influenced by the great love and trust he had for Mr George Bannerman and the deep interest he personally had for soccer because he was once an ardent footballer.

Nana Barimah Ogyeabo-Kum II and Mr Eduafo Collins, Head Coach of the club, on behalf of the management and the entire playing body of the Gomoa Pomadze Real Oman United football Club, expressed their appreciation to Rev. Faller Gillespie for the gesture.

They pledged to ensure effective maintenance of the equipment and administration of the club.

Mr George Bannerman charged the players to subject themselves to serious training so that they could win more football matches to inspire the donor to extend more assistance to them.

As a sign of goodwill, Rev. Father Gillespie was installed as a developmental chief of Gomoa Asebu Deshyena clan under the stool name of Nana Ampee I.

Nana Barimah Ogyeabo-Kum I appealed to Rev. Father Gillespie to assist people in the area and told parents to provide better education for their children especially the girl child.
