The controversial Gomoa East District Assembly has at long last confirmed President Mills’s nominee for the position of District Chief Executive for the area.
Isaac Kingsley Ahunu -Armah was confirmed by the assembly after it rejected the initial nominee, Theophilus Ampah four times.
Mr. Ahunu -Armah an educationist from Gomoa Feteh polled 100 per cent votes as all 30 assembly members comprising 21 elected members and nine government appointees voted for him.
Addressing the members after his election, the elated DCE thanked the members for voting massively for him and promised to work to the satisfaction of all to justify the confidence reposed in him.
On his vision for the area, he promised to unite people from both traditional areas namely, Gomoa East and West to fight for the development of the area.
Mr. Ahunu-Armah further promised to generate funds to improve health delivery and carry out developmental projects in the area.
Central regional minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe advised members to always put the interest of the assembly first to ensure development.
She entreated the people to relegate issues about which area the DCE should come from, indicating the district had lagged behind in development due to the absence of a chief executive.
Madam Doe commended the people for voting for the DCE and promised to give the district the needed support to propel its growth.
The election supervised by the Electoral Commission was characterised by heavy security presence due to the controversy the DCE confirmations in the area had generated.
The mood was jubilative as hundreds of people from Mr. Ahunu-Armah’s home town invaded the place amidst drumming and dancing to celebrate with him.
