The Akyemmansa District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Tom Budu has called on the people to work with the assembly as partners to facilitate development.
The DCE gave the advice at the end of a 10-day skills development training programme for 91 participants from Twumkrom, Zevor, Wawase, Ayeboafo, Mangoase, Ankani Krobo, Obooso Kwadei, Akwasi Awuah and Kwaboadi Number One and Kwaboadi Number Two.
He made the call at Kwaboadi Number Two, where he interacted with the participants who underwent soap and cosmetic making, snail and grasscutter rearing.
The Hunger Project, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and the Rural Enterprises Project funded the programme at the cost of GHC 5,617.
Mr Budu asked the local communities to embrace the self-help spirit in order to improve on their lot, saying government alone could not provide all their needs.
He asked the participants to seek financial and technical assistance to set up their businesses to improve on their living conditions and educate their children to become useful to society.
Mr Rockson Dutenya, Project Officer of Hunger Project said the NGO was partnering the district assemblies and local communities in the bid to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of fighting poverty and hunger.
He said the MDGs could be attained through the empowerment of women as key change agents.
