Twenty farmers who have their farms along the Akoase-Kadewaso feeder road in the Atiwa District have appealed to the two contractors working on the rural electrification and feeder roads projects from Asuboni Rails to Kadewaso for payment of adequate compensation for their crops destroyed.

The farmers said their farm produce including cocoa, citrus and oil palm trees were destroyed and needed funds to rehabilitate their farms.

Conducting the GNA to inspect the destroyed portion of the farms a spokesman of the farmers, Warrant Officer Class One Evans Abankwa (RTD), said the electrical contractor cut down cocoa, citrus and oil palm trees and also cut down big tress that fell on their crops.

He said the road contractor destroyed crops while winning gravels to construct the road.

Mr Abankwa said he used his pension to cultivate the farm while the other ageing farmers spent huge sums of money to cultivate their farms which are their only source of income.

He appealed to the Member of Parliament for Atiwa, Mr Kwesi Ankamah, and the District Chief Executive to order the contractors to pay them adequate compensation as soon as possible.

All efforts to get the two contractors for their views failed because they were not at their work site.
