Sawla residents, Security Agencies and Artisans Unite for National Sanitation Day Clean-Up

Residents of Sawla Township have demonstrated a strong commitment to environmental cleanliness following a successful National Sanitation Day clean-up exercise held across the township on Saturday, Saturday 5th September 2026.

The exercise, organised by the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly through its Environmental Health and Sanitation Department, brought together security agencies, artisan associations, Assembly officials, youth groups, traders and shop owners to clean major streets and public spaces within the township.

The exercise commenced at about 6:30 a.m. and ended at 11:00 a.m., with an encouraging turnout from various sections of the community.

Security Agencies and Artisans Join the Exercise

Personnel of the Sawla District Police Command, led by the District Commander, actively participated in sweeping and desilting choked drains.

The Ghana National Fire Service also joined the exercise, with personnel focusing on the lorry station and market frontage, while officers from the Ghana Immigration Service, Sawla Sector, assisted with weeding and the collection of refuse.

Artisan groups, including the Sawla Association of Garment Makers and the Ghana National Association of Tailores and Dressmakers Association and the Ghana National Beauticians and Hairdressers Association also turned out in their numbers with brooms, shovels and other tools to clean their business surroundings.

Their participation was particularly notable along the principal roads, including the Nakpala, Jinlinkong, Damongo, Bole and Wa roads, where shop owners and other residents joined the exercise.

The groups also cleaned areas around the Premier Bet area at the Bole Lorry Station, helping to improve the appearance and sanitary conditions of the busy commercial area.

District Assembly Leads Community Effort

The District Chief Executive, Hon. Saaka Sinkina, together with staff of the District Assembly, Assembly Members, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, youth groups and residents, participated in the clean-up exercise.

Activities undertaken included sweeping the main market, lorry station and principal streets; desilting choked gutters and drains; collecting and disposing of plastic waste and other refuse; and clearing weeds from overgrown areas around public spaces.

also used the opportunity to sensitise shop owners and residents on the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and actively participating in subsequent sanitation exercises.

The District Chief Executive expressed his appreciation to the security agencies, artisan associations, Assembly staff, business owners, youth groups and residents for their commitment and active participation.

Hon. Saaka Sinkina urged residents to make cleanliness a daily responsibility rather than limiting it to designated sanitation days.
