Acting on credible intelligence, the MCE swiftly mobilized a team to intercept the heavy-duty machine before it could be deployed for unlawful mining activities. The operation, which involved close collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and local stakeholders, was carried out with precision and urgency.
“This decisive action was necessary to protect our environment, safeguard our water bodies, and preserve farmlands that support the livelihoods of many residents,” Hon. Brako Kusi stated. “Illegal mining remains a serious threat to our health, economy, and the future of our municipality. We will not sit idle and watch our natural resources be destroyed.”
The MCE emphasized that the Assembly, working in tandem with security agencies, will continue to clamp down on all forms of illegal mining without fear or favour. He also took the opportunity to commend the Divisional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, his team, and vigilant community members whose cooperation and swift response made the operation successful.
“This should serve as a clear warning,” Hon. Brako Kusi said. “Under my leadership, Birim Central will never become a safe haven for illegal mining activities. We are committed to enforcing the law and promoting the responsible, sustainable use of our natural resources.”
The intervention marks another step forward in the Assembly’s ongoing campaign against galamsey, reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.
