Nkwanta drivers resist new transport fare deduction

Nkwanta South Drivers Union, comprising members from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other transport operators have failed to implement reduction of transport fares as announced.

Despite a 15 per cent reduction in transport fares effective May 24,2025, following a decrease in fuel prices and appreciation of the Cedi, the Unions have refused to implement the new fares.

Mr. Safianu Muniru, Chairman of the Nkwanta South GPRTU, the Union is considering various factors, including the cost of spare parts and other factors before the reduction.

He further stated that the new fare will be communicated to various drivers before the end of the day.

The disagreement has caused confusion among passengers, with some transport operators charging old fares while others have implemented the new rates.

The resistance highlights ongoing challenges in the transportation sector, leaving commuters uncertain about what to expect.
