Despite the groundwork for a new lighting system being completed in 2023, the project remains unfinished with the final connection to the main power source yet to be made.

The intermittent darkness forces pupils such as Bismark Kpebu and Bless Boafo, both final year students, to study under candlelight, severely hampering their academic performance and well-being.

Compounding the problem, many pupils trek more than 7km daily to reach school, the long tiring journey cutting into study time and often leading to absenteeism.

In an interview, the pupils urged government and local authorities to prioritise completion of the lighting projects.

They appealed to non-profit organisation and the public to support them with bicycles to ease their commute.

Mr. Philip Kpapu, a community spokesperson, warned that without intervention, the cycle of neglect could cripple the next generation's prospects.
