Jacob Ablorh, the Assemblyman for the Ablorh Adjei Electoral Area, shared that the festival commemorates the Ga people's triumph over a period of severe famine.

A central ritual involves the ceremonial sprinkling of Kpokpoi, a revered cornmeal dish, to the ancestors.
This act, Mr. Ablorh explained, is a symbolic gesture to "hoot at hunger," a practice deeply rooted in their history when their ancestors endured a great famine.

Dismissing any misconceptions, Mr. Ablorh clarified that the preparation and sprinkling of Kpokpoi are not fetish but rather a meaningful ritual. "It is a ritual to hoot at hunger during the time of our ancestors when they experienced great famine at one point of their journey," he stated.

Ghanadistricts TV had the opportunity to witness the meticulous preparation of Kpokpoi firsthand. The Assemblyman elaborated on the dish's profound significance, explaining that Kpokpoi symbolizes unity and communal feasting. "It means bringing people together to feast," he noted.

The assemblyman further highlighted the crucial role of elders during these festive occasions. He emphasized that elders actively mediate and foster reconciliation among community members who may be experiencing disputes, thereby strengthening social cohesion and promoting peace within the community.

This year's Homowo celebration in Ablorh Adjei electoral area promises to be a powerful display of cultural heritage, remembrance, and community bonding.
