Mr Robert Asiedu, Assemblyman for Aboabo Number One Electoral Area in the Dormaa Municipality, has appealed to political parties to refrain from meddling in district assembly elections.

He expressed regret that many municipal and district assemblies had been divided into political lines, a situation which was affecting decision making processes and slowing down the pace of development.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Thursday, Mr Asiedu said many assembly members in the Dormaa Municipality, Dormaa East and Dormaa West districts were not in talking terms because of partisan politics.

Mr Asiedu said though the district assembly concept frowned on partisan politics, it had become a norm that political parties sponsored some of the assembly members to contest elections.

He noted with concern that sometimes assembly members went through hell before they could decide on issues that served the interest of the constituents because of partisans politics.
