A compact machine, to facilitate waste management has been commissioned in Takoradi.

The machine was imported into the country by the collaboration of Tidyup Ghana Limited and Bergmann Group from Germany.

Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Western Regional Minister, Hon. Alfred.E. Gyan said the project fell in line with current government policy on waste management which went beyond not only preventing pollution but towards the construction of a sustainable resource recycling society.

He said this was why government had urged the Districts Assemblies to collaborate with institutions, civil society organisations including, traditional authorities and churches to adopt the public private partnership initiative to come out with very reliable and sustainable means of waste usage.

He commended Messrs Tidyup Ghana Limited and Bergmann for their investments in waste management in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and pledged the Regional Coordinating Council’s readiness to support such initiatives.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Sekondi-Takoradi, Hon. Anthony Cudjoe alluded to the fact that waste management had been the greatest problem in Sekondi-Takoradi. This he said had resulted in the fast spread of communicable diseases in communities within the metropolis.
