Mr Kwasi Oppong Ababio, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, has expressed worry about the increasing number of pupils engaging in drug- abuse and drunkenness in the Municipality.
Mr Ababio said this at separate ceremonies to inaugurate classroom blocks and teachers bungalows constructed by the Assembly in some communities within the Municipality.
The facilities are a three-unit school block at Kramokrom funded under the District Development Fund (DDF) and two-unit teachers quarters at Nwawasua.
The rest are a six-units school block at Meredane in Sunyani and a three-unit school block at Abesim Presbyterian Basic School.
Apart from the Kramokrom project, the rest were all funded under the Urban Development Grant (UDG).
Mr Ababio said the number of school children engaged in Indian hemp smoking and alcoholism had risen because most of them spent precious time roaming the streets at night instead of studying.
He said the government was committed to providing infrastructure and also motivating teachers to be able to give off their best but parents must also play their part by providing some basic learning materials to support their childrens education.
