Minister for Energy and Petroleum Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has reiterated President John Mahama’s vision to connect all rural communities in Ghana to the national electricity grid by 2016.
Government is therefore working around the clock to ensure that this noble feat is achieved within the stipulated period to better the living conditions of Ghanaians.
Mr Kofi Buah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, said this during a symbolic commissioning of electrification project at Egyan and some communities in the Nzema-East Municipality as part of a working tour of the Western Region.
He said 1,200 communities in the Western Region were yet to be connected to the national electricity grid by 2016 adding, that 300 communities had so far benefited from the 1,500 power project promised by the government.
Mr Buah advised the people to use power judiciously and avoid illegal connections and also teach their children how to use the light to forestall any disaster.
He said the light would open up the area to industrialization as companies would spring up in the area to speed up development of the area.
The Chief of Egyan, Nana Enuako V, said on behalf of the three communities that, since the establishment of the town in 1472, it was the NDC government under former President Jerry John Rawlings that constructed a road to open up the village to the rest of the municipality.
He said the era of President John Mahama had also witnessed the connection of the town to the national electricity grid.
Nana Enuako V noted that the NDC government fulfilled promises especially at the grassroots and asked people in the communities to rally behind the government.
Municipal Chief Executive for Nzema-East, Mr James Kakra Atta Baidoe thanked President Mahama and the Energy Minister for the gesture.
He said plans were under for communities such as Egyan, Domunli, Akonu, Nuabese, Kukuavre and Gwira-Essiem to benefit from chip compounds next year to improve the health care needs of the people.
