On August 28, President John Mahama of Ghana will launch the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority Millennium Village Project in the West Mamprusi and Builsa Districts located in northern Ghana.
 
The President will accompanied by Andrew Mitchell, the UK Secretary of State for International Development and by Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute and Special Adviser to the UN
Secretary-General on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
 
The project, which seeks to help communities achieve the MDGs, is a joint collaboration between the British Department for International
Development (DFID) and the SADA. The project aims to support roughly 30,000 people in the two districts and will cost 11.5 million pounds over the next 5 years.
 
These funds will be used to fund basic necessities including building
clinics, providing free bed nets, agricultural subsidies, water, schools,
electricity, roads, power, and further help the communities stand on its own feet. This total also includes 2 million pounds designated for
monitoring and evaluating the project and technical support.

The MVP was set up to help create a pathway towards achieving the MDGs and help create new income generating opportunities at the rural level through an integrated and scalable set of targeted investments.
 
The MVP is currently working with more than 500,000 people in 10
countries throughout Africa.
