The District Chief Executive for the Sissala West District Assembly, Moses Dramani Luri has expressed grave concern over the rampant cutting down of trees for the purposes of charcoal by some residents of the district.

He explained that the situation in the area has practically worsened as more individuals have commercialized this practice by making it an economic business which they have engaged to cater for their families.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com in an interview over this issue, the DCE further disclosed that the Assembly has realized that people from Accra even travel into the district to trade in charcoal, a situation he warned as a major factor to endangering the quality of the environment.

He said there was the need to protect the environment, and has therefore advised inhabitants who are involved in this infamous activity to end it in order not to deplete the forest reserves of the district and the country as a whole.
