GA EAST :Assembly gives massive support to physically challenged

In view of the high premium placed on the inclusion of Persons Living With Disabilities in our human resource development programme, the Ga East Municipal Assembly has established a bakery at a cost of about  GHC 3400 at Echoing Hills Village, (EHV) a rehabilitation centre for the physically challenged and the visually impaired in society.

In view of the high premium placed on the inclusion of Persons Living With Disabilities in our human resource development programme, the Ga East Municipal Assembly has established a bakery at a cost of about  GHC 3400 at Echoing Hills Village, (EHV) a rehabilitation centre for the physically challenged and the visually impaired in society.

The bakery was set up after the assembly received a proposal from the Visually Impaired Fellowship of EHV to assist them to set up a bakery as a form of income-generating venture to improve their livelihood as well as create employment opportunities for the community.

These were disclosed by the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga East municipal assembly, Mr. Kwao Sackey at the 15th anniversary celebration of Echoing Hills village at Accra.

EHV is an NGO that seeks to rehabilitate and provide shelter for Persons Living with Disability, visually impaired a dn orphans in society.

He said as a component of the assembly’s social policy it seeks to promote the right of PWLD to live within, their communities to enjoy health and wellbeing and to fully participate in educational,social, cultural, religious, economic and political activities.

He pledged the assemblies continued support to such organisations as Echoing Hills Village but challenged the managers of the centre that the success of the centre depends on their commitment to the goals they have set for themselves.

The organisation has so far empowered  over 60 persons with disability in areas of bakery, beads making , batik tye and dye,hair dressing to become trainers of trainers in society after they pass out between the periods of one to two years.
