The District Chief Executive for Central Gonja, Hon. Issifu Salisu Be-Awuribe has debunked claims in some sections of the media of some shootings that took place at Buipe during the visit of the Vice president John Dramani Mahama to cut the sod for a sheanut plant.

In an interview with Radio Gold, an Accra based radio station, the DCE said there was a scuffle between two rival chieftaincy factions at Buipe over which group the Vice president should visit as both factions claim legitimacy to be the Buipe Wura but said the the gun shot reportage was a hoax.

He said, the timely intervention by the police has resolved that due to the heavy schedule of the vice president, a neutral ground was chosen and both factions were represented and duely acknowledged.

The incidence he noted occured hours before the arrival of the Vice President, thus resulting in delay of proceedings for some hours.

Mr.Be-Awuribe admited the long standing rivary between the two groups but said the matter was with the regional house of chiefs for amicable settlement.

He cautioned the media to be circumspect in their reportage about happenings in the area in order not to disturb the relative peace in the district.

He also commended the security personnel for their prompt response to the situation.

Meanwhile, the DCE said, the Vice President has instructed the
Northern Regional Minister and the Police Commander to investigate the stand-off and bring the culprits to book.
