The District Chief Executive of Central Gonja District, Hon. Issifu Salifu Be-Awuribe, has called on assembly members to collaborate with one another to devise new ways of mobilizing revenue.
He said the bedrock of any development effort was resource availability.
“This district is endowed with many resources that are potential sources of revenue,” he said during the first general meeting of the assembly in Buipe.
Mr. Be-Wuribe said the assembly had various sources of revenue
mobilization such as sand winning, cattle rates, market tolls, food exportation and property rates.
He said there was the need to engage the area councils, traditional rulers, property owners and other stakeholders in dialogue to map up pragmatic ways of making revenue mobilization efficient.
Mr. Be-Wuribe said the assembly would put systematic programme to train all revenue collectors to upgrade their skills in revenue collection to ensure effectiveness while some additional collectors would be engaged.
He said the quantum of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) was woefully inadequate to be able to solve all the problems and stressed the importance of internally generated funds to augment the common fund.
He said the NDC won the 2008 elections based on the promise that Ghanaians would be offered with honest and transparent administration and gave the assurance that the assembly would work diligently with all stakeholders to ensure judicious use of funds.
