Zain Communications Network has donated a large quantity of exercise books and other teaching materials valued at several millions of Ghana Cedis to the Lamboya Primary Model School in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The donation, which forms part of Zain’s, "Build Our Nation" initiative, is to complement the government’s efforts at providing educational materials to schools.
The Country Director of Zain Communications Network, Mr. Philip Sowah who presented the donation, said every year the Company spends millions of dollars to ensure that basic schools have the necessary materials to provide quality education to children.
He observed that for Ghana to develop into a prosperous nation, it must have a strong foundation in education hence his Company’s decision to make education a priority.
Mr. Sowah urged the teachers to take good care of the materials provided and encourage the children to make maximum use of them.
The District Chief Executive of Bawku West, Hon. Anabah Adam Moro said the school was a deprived one that needed a lot of assistance and appealed to Zain to consider providing shelves, tables and chairs for the schools library to enable the books to be properly cared for.
He also appealed to Zain to create alternative livelihood programmes for the people of the community who are mostly peasant farmers for them to earn some extra-income which would help them cater for their wards in school.
