NATIONAL: Ministry to rehabilitate all bad roads

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has embarked on a nationwide programme to rehabilitate all bad roads in the country.  The Sector Minister, Joe Gidisu who disclosed this said government intends to bring good roads to all parts of the country.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways has embarked on a nationwide programme to rehabilitate all bad roads in the country.  The Sector Minister, Joe Gidisu who disclosed this said government intends to bring good roads to all parts of the country.  

He was speaking at the Meet-the-Press Series in Accra. According to him, a number of roads are already being rehabilitated as part of the Urban Road Project to promote urban Mobility and also to help reduce congestion.  

Mr. Gidisu commended the World Bank, JICA and other partners in the project.  He said the Awoshie-Pokuase road project in the western part of Accra is supported by the African Development Bank and the Ghana government.  

Mr. Gidisu also noted the delay on the Achimota-Ofonkor Road Project which he attributed to funding and gave the assurance that work will be speeded up to ensure early completion.  He also appealed to truck operators to abide by the Axle load regulations to help preserve roads.  

Mr. Gidisu added that the Ministry is seeking approval to increase tolls on highways to complement the road fund for development.
