The Bishop of Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church, Right Reverend James Baffour Awuah has urged choristers in the church to compose songs that would bring positive behavioural changes in the youth.
He noted that society’s contemporary requirements should not be left out when designing lyrics and rhythms to also cater for the church’s doctrines.
The Diocesan Bishop made the call at the opening of the 11th Biennial Delegates’ Conference of the Diocesan Chapter of the Association of Methodist Church Choirs in Brong Ahafo.
A total of 750 choristers and executives of the association participated in the four-day conference, which was under the theme; “The Bible in the Christian’s Life and Ministry”.
Bishop Baffour-Awuah entreated the choristers to let the messages in their songs reflect in their daily interactions and conduct themselves within the confines of the rules of the church.
He advised them to shun acts that had the potential to breed among them, incessant lust for riches, early and multiple sex, indiscipline and consultations with evil spirits for prosperity and other perceived gains.
The National President of the Association of Methodist Choirs, Mr Francis Collins Annan said the association was determined to instil discipline among members and urged group leaders to ensure the strict observance of basic dressing rules.
He said a concept of peer adjudication adopted to enhance sanity and fairness during choral competitions had begun to yield positive results.
“The concept has halted accusations and counter-accusations, insults and hooliganism hitherto visited on judges during competitions,” Mr Annan said.
The Sunyani Diocesan Chairman of the Association, Mr Emmanuel Baffour Tawiah, commended the choristers from all the 14 circuits of the diocese for comporting themselves during meetings and other gatherings.
“By their acts the choristers have demonstrated their commitment to working in partnership with the clergy towards the total enhancement of the church’s ministry,” he added.
The Host Pastor, Very Reverend E.K. Abaka Wilson commended the church choirs and other associations within the church for joining forces to prop up the church.
He said the four-day conference would not only take stock of the past two years but would also enable the choristers to make new friends and learn new ways of approaching their chosen Christian obligation.
