The Local Council of Churches at Teshie in Greater Accra organised a health walk to raise funds and improve upon the physical well being of members.
The health walk, which climaxed the home- week celebration of the local council, was also aimed at fostering unity among member churches in spite of the doctrinal differences that existed amongst them.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee of the Local Council, Mr. Fred Adjetey Sowah told the Ghana News Agency after the two-hour exercise, that the event, which was an initiative which begun three years ago had become an annual affair which brings the participating churches together in sporting competitions such as volley ball, football and indoor games.
Mr. Adjetey Sowah said the event helped the participating youth to desist from social vices such as drug abuse and internet fraud, popularly called “sakawa”.
He said “the devil finds work for the idle hand”.
The walk which started from Teshie gave the opportunity for the young and the old to walk briskly through the streets of Teshie to the Nungua township and back.
Along the way drivers co-operated with the members by creating room for them to pass on the busy road.
About 150 members from the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Anglican Church, Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Methodist Church took part in the exercise.
