JIRAPA : Churches urged to establish clear cut standards of operations

The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Mahmud Khalid has called on church leaders to establish clear cut standards by which churches in the country would operate.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Mr Mahmud Khalid has called on church leaders to establish clear cut standards by which churches in the country would operate.
    
He said that would help nib in the bud churches that sprung up to satisfy their ulterior motives and ended up marring the reputation of other churches.

Mr Khalid made the call at the Annual General Meeting of the Wa Diocesan Priests Association at Jirapa which was on the theme: “Strengthening the Weary Limbs for a more Effective Ministry”.

The meeting offered the members the opportunity to review their activities and reposition themselves for the Lord’s work.

Mr Khalid said the role of Christianity was to maintain peace and stability and promote human development and urged governing bodies of churches to work for the total transformation of the people.

He commended the Catholic Church for its role in helping to promote nation building by providing schools, health facilities, food and relief services and the spiritual development of its members.

“No one can lose out on the great contributions of the Catholic Church in the Upper West Region and we are indebted to the church for the numerous contributions,” Mr Khalid said.

He urged the church to continue in that direction to give true meaning to the biblical injunction that “service to God is service to mankind”.

He called for the strengthening of the Catholic Church to appropriately and effectively help fight immorality, dishonesty, corruption and violence in the society.
    
Mr Khalid said it was in this light that the priests must brainstorm to find out their shortfalls and reposition themselves to fulfil their mandate on earth.
    
He urged the church to partner government to improve on the current situation of poverty and underdevelopment in the region.
