JIRAPA :NDC retains Jirapa seat

The ruling National Democratic Congress has retained the Jirapa seat in the Upper West Region.

The ruling National Democratic Congress has retained the Jirapa seat in the Upper West Region.

Dr Francis Bawaana Dakurah, the party’s candidate for the bye-election obtained 76.9 per cent  of the total ballots cast, whilst the canditate for the New Patriotic candidate,  Justine Dakorah obtained 20 per cent.
 
A third candidate, Miss Joycelyn Angsiema who stood on the ticket of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) obtained less than  two per cent of valid votes cast.

The bye-election in the Jirapa Constituency, which has 105 polling stations was necessitated by the death of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr. Edward Salia.

According to the Jirapa District Electoral Officer everything went well, adding that he was pleased with the outcome of the election.

Dr Francis Bawaana Dakura is a 49-year-old anthropologist; Justin Dakorah, 58, a Director of Education and a former District Chief Executive for Jirapa and Miss Joycelyn Angsiema, 33, a teacher.
