Residents of Kadia, a farming community near Diare in the
Savelugu-Nanton District of the Northern region are living in perpetual fear following reported sightings of ghosts since the February 15 motor accident in the area.
The residents told Daily Guide that since the accident, which claimed 35 lives, strange things had been happening in the community, making most of them pathnic especially at night.
Tried to respond to a knock on his door thinking a neighbor required some assistance; only to be greeted by a stranger dressed in white in the middle of the night.
The loud sounds of unknown persons wailing and strange footsteps of invisible beings walking at night at the accident scene were among some of the incidents they complained about.
Unlike in the past when residents could sit by the roadside up to 9:00 pm to sell yams to highway travelers, the situation had suddenly changed for fear of ghost attack.
Strange voices, some of the community members alleged, were heard calling out names and making demands, compelling residents to lock themselves up in their rooms.
In one of such instances, a resident told daily guide that he tried to respond to a knock on his door thinking a neighbor required some assistance; only to be greeted by a stranger dressed in white in the middle of the night.
Others complained that their reserved meals were reportedly missing the ext day, which was very unusual in the communities thereby compelling them to believe that ghosts indeed had descended on the town.
A section of the community members said it was evidently clear that they were now sharing almost everything in the community with these strange beings.
An elderly man told daily guide that one evening his wife rushed back home when he requested her to fetch water for him, with the explanation that some invisible persons were busy chatting by the standpipe.
Asked what the next line of action elders of community would take to tackle the issue one of them disclosed that they were left with no option but to perform some rituals to separate the dead from the living.
He added that until this was done, the nightmarish incidences would continue, taking into consideration the number of lives lost in the accident and the amounts of blood shed.
In his view, the ghosts were harmless and that there was the need for the people to go about their businesses freely, indicating that the owners of the vehicles should have performed some rituals which they failed to do.
It would be recalled that 35 persons died on the spot when a 33 seater Benz bus and a trailer truck collided at Kadia on the dawn of Sunday February 15.
The dead were mainly occupants of the Benz bus, which was from Kumasi and heading for Garu in the Upper East Region, while the truck with registration number NR 1096 S loaded with onions was from the opposite direction. Eye witnesses said the driver of the Benz bus tried to overtake the truck and lost control, running into another heavy vehicle with registration number GW 991 S, killing the occupants instantly.
A neoplan bus with registration number AS 5054 J reported to be
following the truck also veered off the road. The bodies of the deceased were initially deposited at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy and later buried after identification by respective families and in accordance with their religious beliefs.
Ever since the burial the resident of Kadia had constantly complained of very frightening and horrifying incidents.
They linked the incidents to what they described as the painful deaths of the travelers.
Daily guide gathered that plans, by traditional authorities of the community, were far advanced to relieve residents of their worries.
