The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in the Savelugu- Nanton District in the Northern Region has appealed to security services to quickly respond to an alleged disagreement between drivers and commuters travelling from Nanton to Tampoin.
In an interview on Joy Fm "Super morning show", the chairman of the GPRTU said the disagreement is a recipe for disaster and needed urgent intervention to avoid it escalating into a full blown conflict.
He said passengers from Tampoin complained that drivers do not send them to their destinations, which is Tampoin, rather they alight them somewhere and asked them to complete the rest of the journey on foot to Tampoin which is quite a distance, even though they charge them a fare to their final destination.
The situation he said, has angered the chief of Tampoin who gave three day ultimatum to Nanton farmers in Tampoin to harvest their crops and leave the town or have their farms burnt if they fail to comply with the three days ultimatum.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Savelugu-Nanton could not comment on the situation as he was in Accra and had no knowledge in the alleged development.
Ghanadistrict.com would however keep you updated on development in the district.
