A 10-year-old pupil of Walewale in the Northern Region, Ibrahim Samudu, rides on a donkey to and from school everyday.
His school is several miles away from his home and he must get there through some means of transportation.

His school is several miles away from his home and he must get there through some means of transportation.
Ibrahim is one of the ’lucky boys’ in Walewale to have the ’privilege’ of riding a donkey to school.
The use of the donkey is necessitated by the long distance from his house to school, as the only route to the school is the long, winding untarred road.
As depicted in this picture, his other friends do not have that privilege since not all parents in the area can afford to buy donkeys for their children.
Many of the school children walk long miles to and from school every morning and, afternoon, while a few of them use bicycles.
The vehicles that use the road blow dust on them and though the pupils plead with drivers who ply their routes to offer them lifts, the response is usually not favourable.
