The exercise carried out by Dr. David Mensah, the Veterinary Doctor and his staff was targeted at pig farmers and aimed at informing and educate them on the signs and symptoms of the disease and its prevention since there is no known vaccine.

Dr. Mensah revealed that, Ghana as a country is still trying its best to get Vaccine or treatment for the disease but so far it has not been successful yet, so for that matter farmers should try not to allow their pigs to be attacked by this harmful disease/sickness which has hit the country for some time now.

Farmers were taken through signs such as; high fever, decreased appetite, red or blotchy skin lesions, diarrhea, vomiting, coughing, difficulty breathing and in severe cases, sudden death.

On prevention they were advised to
• limit access to farms;
• to undertake rigorous cleaning and disinfection, and avoid the introduction of contaminated materials,
• restricting access to the farm by visitors,
• introduction of footbath at entrances and exits,
• avoid feeding pigs with garbage such as leftover food or household waste,
• isolate sick pigs from the herd and keep visiting them always to monitor them.
Farmers expressed gratitude to the team for enlightening them on the out-break of the disease(ASF) which have become a worry to them as farmers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF) have lost their source of income and now counting their losses.

Most pork sales and family are also complaining of the price of pork in the market it is their sours of protein and is expensive in the market.
Meanwhile Dr. Mensah revealed in an interview assured that samples of the dad pigs have been taken to Accra for further examination.
