The Builsa South District Health Directorate in the Upper East Region has made a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Health to urgently post midwives to CHPS compounds across the district.

The District Director of Health Services, Dr. Emmanuel Kob-Puo, disclosed that four critical CHPS compounds currently have no midwives at all. He noted that the district has only 15 midwives serving 26 CHPS compounds, while the entire district relies on just one medical doctor who works without shift support.
According to Dr. Kob-Puo, the Builsa South District Hospital in Fumbisi has only 10 midwives, far below the required number of over 20, a situation that is placing enormous pressure on the limited workforce.
He further explained that the shortage of midwives and nurses at the 26 CHPS compounds is weakening the referral system, as these facilities serve as the critical link between communities and the district hospital.
With a population of over 40,000, access to quality healthcare remains a major concern, particularly in rural communities where health facilities are limited and severely understaffed.
Dr. Kob-Puo made these remarks during the handing over of a newly constructed CHPS compound at Teudema by SOCO. He revealed that due to the lack of personnel, midwives from other health facilities had to be temporarily reassigned to manage the new facility instead of deploying newly posted staff.
