Dr. Esther Priscilla Biamah Danquah, the Municipal Director of Health Services, shared that these extensive measures are being implemented as part of the National Malaria Elimination Programme.
This initiative aims to ensure comprehensive action against malaria across all 21 health districts in the Greater Accra Region
Dr. Danquah strongly advises pregnant women and lactating mothers to take extra precautions against mosquito bites. She also urges all residents to seek prompt medical attention at health facilities if they feel unwell, rather than resorting to self-medication for suspected malaria.
Recent data indicates that approximately 98% of malaria cases are tested before treatment, with a current positive rate of 20%.
The directorate emphasizes a 'test, treat, and track' approach for malaria clients. Apolonia and Oyibi have been identified as the areas with the highest prevalence rates within the municipality.
With the current weather conditions being particularly conducive to malaria transmission, households are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant and ensure they are well-protected against mosquito bites.
