Ahafo Ano South West MP seek support from the Korean Government

The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, Hon. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah, who is also the vice chairman of the committee on Human Rights in Ghana’s Parliament, met with the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to Ghana on Monday, July 14, 2025.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation between the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency and the government of Korea through development cooperation.

Discussions centred around enhancing trade, socio-economic development, access to quality healthcare and modernised agriculture.

“Ahafo Ano South West is a largely rural constituency with enormous potential in agriculture, natural resources, and human capital, particularly our vibrant youth and industrious women” he said.

Mr. Dapaah reiterated that the rationale behind the meeting was to seek the support and partnership of the Korean Government to develop his constituency.

He noted his interest is in exploring opportunities under the various Korean development programs, such as KOICA, KOFIH, EDCF, and the Knowledge Sharing Program, which will help achieve his developmental goals for the constituency.

He said the Korean government’s initiatives align with the priorities of the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency.

Some of these priorities he mentioned are: Expanding access to technical and vocational education for youth, supporting women-led entrepreneurship and cooperative farming, improving rural healthcare delivery through mobile clinics or CHPS compound upgrades, promoting sustainable agriculture through irrigation, agro-processing, and mechanisation and securing scholarships or training opportunities for deserving students and professionals.

“I am aware of Korea’s growing engagement with Africa, and I believe that constituencies like mine must be part of this new wave of cooperation. I look forward to working closely with your office, KOICA Ghana, and KOTRA to translate these development goals into tangible projects that can directly benefit the people on the ground” he said.

Mr. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah assured the ambassador of his full commitment as a legislator in the Ghanaian Parliament and also as a development advocate to facilitate any collaborative effort that will bring long-term benefits to the Ahafo Ano South West Constituency and the government of Korea.

The Korean ambassador to Ghana, Park Kyongsig emphasised Korea’s commitment to Ghana’s development through various projects. He expressed a desire to strengthen their long-term relationship with Ghana through the support of building the youth for a better future.

He pledged his commitment to channeling the energies of the younger generation properly in Ghana.

The Korean Embassy in Accra, Ghana has been strengthening bilateral relations with Ghana since 1977, focusing on political and economic cooperation, development, and cultural exchanges.

The Member of Parliament for Ahafo Ano South West Constituency, Hon. Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah was accompanied by Nana Dr. Agyemang Duah, chief of Kunsu, Paul Atsu Agebezudor, District Coordinating Director for Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly and Engineer Alexander Kello, Head of Works Department at the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly.
