The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agriculture, create long-term income opportunities, and align local interventions with national agricultural policies.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Mr. Akparibo underscored the government’s commitment to supporting farmers with improved planting materials to boost productivity and ensure economic stability for households dependent on agriculture. He appealed to beneficiaries to take good care of the seedlings and to use their farmlands responsibly in order to derive maximum benefit from the support.

He added that the Assembly would continue to roll out agric-based interventions to strengthen livelihoods and expand the municipality’s economic base.

Mr. Atinbeok Danlaadi Paul, the Municipal Director of Agriculture, also addressed the farmers. He encouraged them to adopt best agronomic practices to ensure high survival rates of the seedlings and optimum yields when they mature. He informed the beneficiaries that the coconut seedlings are expected to begin bearing fruits within three to six years, depending on the level of care given.

He further advised the farmers to practise inter-cropping with compatible food crops during the early stages to make efficient use of land and to generate supplementary income while the coconut plants mature.

He assured them of continued technical support through monitoring, advisory visits and farmer-based training sessions.
Beneficiary farmers expressed appreciation to the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, for initiating national programmes that support farmers with improved planting materials.

They also commended the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Akparibo, together with the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly and the Department of Agriculture, for facilitating the local distribution and ensuring farmers benefit directly from the initiative.

The exercise forms part of broader government efforts to promote tree crop development within the Ahafo Region and aligns with the Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) initiative, designed to boost export revenue and transform rural economies.
