La-Nkwantanang-Madina in cleanup exercise

The La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) on Saturday embarked on a six-hour cleanup exercise to rid the area of filth.

During an inspection by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr Franklin Anku of the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly and the Co-ordinating Director Alhaji Saaka Dramani, the MCE reminded Ghanaians to take the cleanup exercises seriously.

 

He said though some people were adamant most of the people in the area Participated fully in the exercise.

 

I am grateful to the media for the part it played by reminding Ghanaians to actively participate in the exercise

 

He urged the assembly to enforce the laws on sanitation by arresting and Prosecuting offenders to serve as a deterrent and appealed to the courts to Impose hefty fines on culprits.

 

The MCE pleaded with Ghanaians to change their attitudes towards the national sanitation day and actively participate in it.

 

Later in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Head of Sanitation, Environmental Health and Management, of  LaNMMA, Mr Joseph Quarcoe said the cleanup exercise, which begun at 0600 hours ended after 1100 hours and was heavily patronized and successful.

 

He mentioned areas such as the Rawlings circle to Atomic Roundabout, Madina Zongo Junction to the Social Welfare area, from Zongo junction to the Atomic junction and around the Madina Central Market as places heavily engulfed with filth. 

 

The La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly provided four waste disposable trucks, 50 wheelbarrows, 200 Alley brooms, 50 shovels, 50 rakes, wellington boots and hand gloves for the exercise. 

 

Some members of the Madina Central Market, who refused to participate in the exercise, had their wares ceased.  Accordding to the Head of Sanitation, Mr. Joseph Quarcoe, the culprits would be fined by his outfit.
