The commitment was made during a stakeholder engagement meeting organized by the Ghana Boundary Commission in the municipality. The exercise forms part of efforts to review and reaffirm the international boundary between Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire.

Speaking during the meeting, the Mnicipal Chief Executive Stephen Morcher, emphasized the importance of clearly defined and mutually recognized boundaries in maintaining peace and preventing conflicts among border communities.

Representatives of the Assembly noted that Aowin, being a border municipality, stands to benefit significantly from initiatives that promote security, orderly governance, and improved relations between the two neighboring countries.

The engagement brought together municipal authorities, traditional leaders, security agencies, and community stakeholders to discuss progress made under the boundary reaffirmation project and identify challenges affecting border management.

Participants highlighted concerns including smuggling through unapproved routes, encroachment along sections of the boundary, and inadequate infrastructure at some border crossing points. These challenges, they said, continue to affect effective border administration and security.

The Ghana Boundary Commission assured stakeholders of its commitment to working with relevant institutions to address the concerns raised and ensure the successful completion of the exercise.

Traditional leaders within the municipality also expressed their support for the initiative, describing it as a critical step toward safeguarding peace and fostering stronger economic and social relations between communities on both sides of the border.

Authorities believe the boundary reaffirmation exercise will contribute to improved security, enhanced trade opportunities, and sustainable development in border communities across the municipality.

The Aowin Municipal Assembly has reiterated its readiness to collaborate with government agencies and traditional authorities to ensure the success of the programme and promote peaceful coexistence along the Ghana Côte d'Ivoire frontier.
