The event, held in the Eastern Region, saw 10 mastercraft persons and 50 apprentices receive tools and support packages aimed at building sustainable livelihoods through skills development.
Gracing the ceremony were the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Francis Addo Akumatey; Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Hon. Albert Tetteh Nyakotey; and the Eastern Regional NAP Coordinator, Mr. Emmanuel Asante.
In his address, the MCE expressed profound appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for delivering on his promise to empower the youth through practical apprenticeship programmes. He revealed that an overwhelming 643 apprentices and 271 mastercraft persons applied when the portal opened, with only 50 apprentices and 10 mastercraft persons selected in the first phase.
He urged mastercraft persons to safeguard the equipment and admonished apprentices to respect their trainers, noting that discipline and mentorship are key to becoming self-reliant.

Adding his voice, the MP emphasised the importance of the intervention, declaring, “Talent without the right equipment is untapped potential.” He encouraged beneficiaries to fully utilise the tools to unlock their abilities and build meaningful futures.
Providing further details, the Regional NAP Coordinator disclosed that out of the 10,000 people used to pilot the programme nationwide, 1,200 slots were secured for the Eastern Region, with Yilo Krobo emerging as the second-highest beneficiary municipality. He explained that apprentices will receive monthly stipends, while mastercraft persons will be paid apprenticeship fees of GHS 3,000 each.
He clarified that the equipment handed over is meant for the mastercraft persons to train apprentices effectively, adding that apprentices will receive their own brand-new start-up kits upon completing the 12-month training period. He also cautioned trainers against engaging apprentices in unproductive errands and assured non-beneficiaries that future phases will expand the programme to reach up to 100,000 beneficiaries nationwide.
The Municipal Coordinator of the National Youth Authority, Mr. John Kissiedu, commended the regional leadership for selecting Yilo Krobo in the first batch and advised beneficiaries to use the support responsibly.
With strong stakeholder backing and growing anticipation for the next phase, the National Apprenticeship Programme is fast positioning Yilo Krobo as a rising hub for skills development, entrepreneurship, and youth-driven economic transformation.
