The 13kilometre road stretch, which had remained in a deplorable condition for several years, is expected to improve transportation and boost economic activities within the district.

The project, awarded to Justmoh Construction, covers the road from Kejebir through Mpohor to Adum Banso and is expected to be completed within 24 months. The project had previously witnessed sod-cutting ceremonies in 2018 and 2021 without significant progress, leaving residents and motorists frustrated over the poor state of the road.

The contractor, Mr Justice Amoh, explained that the road would be constructed using paving blocks rather than conventional asphalt, in line with the approved design. He said the contractor had commenced production of the paving blocks and other construction materials required for the project, assuring that work would progress steadily to meet the required specifications and completion period.

The Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nelson, during a site inspection on March 9, expressed satisfaction with the return of the contractor to site. He said although he was pleased that the project had finally commenced, his satisfaction would be complete when the road was fully completed to the required standard.

The Safohene of the Mpohor Traditional Area, Twaah Kwame, welcomed the commencement of the project, noting that the poor road network had been a major concern for residents and businesses in the district. He expressed hope that the latest intervention would bring an end to the repeated delays and abandonment that had characterised previous attempts to improve the road.

The road project is expected to facilitate the movement of people and goods, reduce transportation difficulties and open up farming communities in the district to wider markets.

The Big Push programme is designed to accelerate infrastructure development, improve connectivity, reduce travel time and enhance access to markets across the country. The Ministry of Roads and Highways says work has commenced on several projects under the programme nationwide.
