According to him, the figures have highlighted the increasing vulnerability of communities to both natural and human-induced disasters, necessitating intensified preventive measures.
Speaking at the first ordinary meeting of the Assin North District Assembly, Mr. Amakye disclosed that the incidents comprised 33 domestic fire outbreaks, 20 bushfires, 15 rainstorms, six building collapses, and two galamsey pit-related accidents.
He noted that the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) provided relief assistance to 82 affected persons during the period.
Mr. Amakye said the Assembly, in collaboration with NADMO, had stepped up public education campaigns and organised clean-up exercises to minimise the occurrence of human-induced disasters and enhance community preparedness.
As part of the measures, he said, 40 volunteers had been trained and equipped to support public education, early warning dissemination, and emergency response activities within their communities.
According to the DCE, the initiative is expected to strengthen local emergency response systems and reduce dependence on external assistance during disasters.
He urged Assembly members to support the volunteer groups in order to build resilient communities capable of responding effectively to emergencies and mitigating the impact of future disasters.
