This has created a situation where many residents struggle to obtain clean and safe water for their daily needs.
As a result of the unreliable water access, some residents have been forced to utilize alternative sources, including stagnant water sources, which they share with animals.
This challenging situation has persisted for several weeks, compelling residents in areas such as Sege township, Bornikope, Koluedor, and Toflokpo to turn to boreholes, sachet water, and, in some cases, untreated water from open wells and streams.
Prior to the current crisis, residents received a free byproduct from a sachet water factory, which they used for bathing and washing clothes. However, due to the present water shortage, the factory workers are now selling this byproduct to them.
Mr. Ernest Kugblenu, the Assembly Member for the Sege-Koni Electoral Area, addressed the issue in an interview, stating that measures are being implemented to alleviate the residents' plight.
He mentioned his collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sege Constituency, Mr. Daniel Kisseh Bassey, to arrange for water tankers to deliver water to the affected communities at a subsidized cost. Mr. Kugblenu cautioned residents, emphasizing that the distributed water is not treated and must be boiled before consumption.
Mr. Ezekiel Awinyan, the water system manager at the Community Water and Sanitation Agency, attributed the water supply issues to a damaged transformer and other technical problems at the water station serving the area.
Many residents have expressed their frustration with the unreliable water supply, urging the Community Water and Sanitation Agency and other relevant authorities to take swift action.
Madam Florence Alimo, a resident of Sege, stated, "We can go for days without a single drop of water from our taps. This is affecting our hygiene and daily activities."
In the meantime, residents are appealing to the MP and the Ada West District Assembly to intervene and ensure stable and affordable access to water, particularly during the dry season.
