As part of other efforts to mitigate perennial flooding in the municipality, the Assembly is also set to construct additional drainage systems to control the expected increase in water flow during the rainy season.

Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Emmanuel Allotey, revealed in an interview with Ganadistricts.com that key drains at Nsakina, Lafa, Rasta, Tantra, and Tabora have been earmarked for dredging in the coming weeks.

“As for the rains, we can’t stop them, but there should be systems in place to carry the water away into the Tunga Lagoon,” he said.

Admitting the substantial cost of the project, Mr. Allotey used the opportunity to call for support from residents, donor agencies, and the central government to help fund and execute the initiative.

“We need support from the community, donor agencies, the government and everyone so that we can create proper paths for the water to run through into the main lagoon,” he emphasized.
