The 1D1F policy was introduced by the Government of Ghana to empower communities to harness their local resources for manufacturing and value addition while creating sustainable employment opportunities for residents.

The programme seeks to reduce poverty, boost local production, encourage exports, and stimulate economic growth at the district level.

Since the launch of the initiative, Gomoa East has successfully attracted six factories under the programme, making it one of the notable beneficiaries within the Central Region.

Among the factories currently operating in the district are the Industrial Grease and Lubricants Factory by Rikpat located at Akotsi, Platinum Warehousing, also situated at Akotsi, VeRide Energy Limited, Green Extract Company Limited, Lesdy Company Limited, and De-Bridge Company Limited, which specializes in tile cement production.

These industries are helping to diversify the district's economy while creating direct and indirect employment opportunities for the growing population.

Industry experts say the presence of multiple factories within a single district demonstrates the significant industrial potential of Gomoa East and its strategic importance within Ghana's economic transformation agenda.

The Gomoa East Metropolitan Assembly has played a critical role in facilitating these investments.

To support the establishment of the factories, the Assembly undertook several interventions including the payment of land compensation to affected landowners, the extension of electricity to project sites, and the rehabilitation and reshaping of road networks leading to the industrial facilities.

These investments have helped create a more attractive business environment for investors while accelerating project implementation.

The impact of the factories is being felt beyond industrial production.

Local businesses, transport operators, suppliers, artisans, and service providers are benefiting from increased economic activity generated by the growing industrial presence in the district.

However, despite these gains, the Metropolis continues to face a number of critical development challenges that threaten to slow its growth momentum.

Among the key challenges confronting the Assembly are inadequate health facilities, insufficient classroom infrastructure, poor roads and drainage systems, limited financial resources, inadequate environmental sanitation facilities, and a shortage of residential accommodation for public sector workers.

The Metropolis is also grappling with boundary disputes with neighboring districts and the growing challenge of land guard activities, which continue to create uncertainty around land ownership and investment.

Development analysts argue that addressing these bottlenecks is crucial if Gomoa East is to fully capitalize on the opportunities presented by industrialization and population growth.

Stakeholders believe that improving infrastructure, strengthening social services, and ensuring land security will significantly enhance investor confidence and accelerate economic development.

As Ghana continues to push its industrialization agenda, Gomoa East appears well-positioned to become a major manufacturing and investment destination in the Central Region.

The district's growing portfolio of factories is proving that with the right support, local resources can be transformed into industries that create jobs, generate wealth, and power sustainable development.
