He made these remarks when he appeared before the Local Government and Rural Development Committee at its public hearing on a referral made by the Rt. Hon Speaker on an annual audit statement.
According to him, he invited the Member of Parliament for Tema West to his first Assembly meeting which he could not honour, but added that another invitation has been sent to him again with regard to their next Assembly meeting which is due in the next two weeks.
A member of the Committee Jerry Ahmed Shaib wanted to know if he had a cordial working relationship with his MP as very often the working relationship between MPs and the Chief Executives are not cordial due to the fact that Chief Executives often eye the MPs seat and give them tough time.
“I reached out very often to my MP via text message or phone and we are the best of partners so far as it would bring us development at the local level”, he noted.
The Deputy Ranking, Alexander Akwasi Acquah sought to know if MMDAs should operate as an island, but the Tema West MCE noted that it is not in the interest of the Assemblies for chief executives to operate as an island.
And for the interest of the Assemblies, they need to come together and work as partners to gain the much-needed development; adding that the issue of one’s political affiliation does not matter even though it makes it easier if you both belong to the same party.
But then having the right mind set to bring development to your people should be paramount, so irrespective of the party one belongs to, the mindset is to bring development to your people, you should meet at that point and work together, the MCE pointed out to the Committee.
