Kwahu East DCE urges Assemblies not to be overly reliant on Central Gov’t Allocations
The District Chief Executive for Kwahu East, Samuel Asamoah, has cautioned Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country against excessive reliance on the 80 percent central government’s resource allocation to all 261 Assemblies.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, Mr. Asamoah, however, emphasized the urgent need for Assemblies to explore alternative revenue generating avenues, especially through the enhancement of Internally Generated Funds (IGF), to help accelerate development in their respective areas.
“The common fund has no space for certain expenditures, especially some recurring ones. So if you don’t work hard to improve your IGF, you will struggle,” he warned.
He therefore urged MMDCEs, especially those in rural communities, to implement effective measures to boost revenue from sources such as market tolls and property rates to help improve their financial positions.
He noted that the recent guidelines by the Mahama-administration for the utilization of the 80 percent allocation make it difficult for Assemblies to freely spend from it, adding that the government intends to ensure accountability and transparency in the spending of the funds.
The DCE also used the opportunity to commend the President for the decision to allocate more than 80 percent of resources to the local level.
He described the move as a strategic step to foster grassroots development and promote inclusive growth.
