Obuasi E. exceeds revenue target

In his Sessional Address during the General Assembly Meeting of Obuasi East Municipal Assembly held on 9th and 10th July, 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive William Kofi Adzowu said, the Assembly has performed creditably well by exceeding it revenue target and said is a remarkable improvement in revenue mobilization.
He then commended the revenue unit for their outstanding performance in mobilizing revenue for the Assembly. He listed some contributed revenue items to this success story as sand and stones, building and development fees, property rates and market daily market tolls and was quick to add that, there is more room for improvement in other areas to generate revenue for the Assembly.
“We have improved and exceeded our revenue targets as a result of the prudent measures we have put in place to collect revenue. Pragmatic measures such as valuing all properties within the municipality so that the property rate collection will be based on assessed property rate payment to increase revenue collection, using billing software currently to achieve full payment recovery, timely payment of commission to commission collectors, building reliable data base on all the revenue items within the municipality, official vehicle to the works department of the assembly to help processing for permitting for building and development fee collection.
Hon. Adzowu then touched on some government flagship programs which focused on addressing major national concerns and improving living standard such as; 24 Hour Economy and Feed Ghana Program (FGP).
On the 24-Hour Economy, the MCE announced to the Assembly Members that, the President John Dramani Mahama launched the program on 3rd July, 2025 at Accra and the program seeks to accelerate economy growth, provide employment and induce export for foreign exchange.
Speaking to the Media after the meeting in regards to the Assembly’s plan on the 24-Hour Economy, he said, the “Municipality has a plan to move the wood sellers from their current place to the well prepared Boete industry park so that the current wood sellers place would be developed into an ultra – modern market that can operate day and night .
There will be a vehicle parking space and lorry stations so that the municipality will be opened up to reduce cost of doing business in the municipality and make it functional.
In view of that the Municipal Assembly has proposed to construct nine (9) sheds in phases so that it would pave the way for the movement of the wood sellers to the new site.
Hon. William added that the place will be accompanied by some auxiliary facilities like Health Center, Police station, School and Lorry Terminal.
On Feed Ghana Programme, the MCE said the program is an agricultural intervention by the government to primarily accelerate the transformation of the Ghana’s agricultural sector, to ensure food security, create sustainable employment and enhance economic growth by reducing import dependency while boosting domestic production by creating jobs and wealth, enhance value addition, ensure food security and improve nutritional outcome.
He added that, the agriculture department of the Assembly is in far advance by registering the farmers under the programme and sensitizing them about the programme to ensure maximum participation
